Katy Fray

Harry and the Potters

Wizard Rock Band

Harry and the Potters are the first wizard rock band. Since forming in 2002, they have played over 800 shows in libraries, rock clubs, art spaces, bookstores, basements, backyards and pizza places all over the world.

They also helped co-found the Harry Potter Alliance and are the creators of the Golden Snitchwich: a peanut butter and Golden Graham sandwich that you can catch in your mouth, just like Harry Potter did in his first Quidditch match. This blast of protein and carbs is the ideal food choice for busy convention attendees looking for a boost of energy now and later. Find out more at catchitinyourmouth.com.

The Parselmouths

Wizard Rock Band

The Parselmouths are a Slytherin all-girl band started in 2004 by Kristina Horner and Elle Sonnet. Inspired by the boy-who-lived (and determined to rock out just as hard), they wrote songs about everything from kicking house elves and getting Hagrid fired, to the peculiar tattoos their dads have (dark marks). In later years they cleaned up their act a smidge, added Gryffindor Eia Waltzer to the band, and pondered a bit about house unity. But only a little. The Parselmouths "retired" in 2011 to work on other projects, but are excited to reunite at LeakyCon for one final show. They might not be the same old Slytherin "mean girls" they once were, but they'll be Voldemort Fangirls for life.

Tianna and the Cliffhangers

Wizard Rocker

Tianna Mignogna was too cool for Harry Potter. That is, before her second grade teacher read Sorcerer's Stone to the class and she fell in love. Now Tianna is a Slytherin singer/songwriter based out of Pittsburgh, PA. The moment she first heard The Whomping Willows’ “Draco and Harry” she knew she was a goner for wizard rock. Once she put down the pots and pans and picked up the guitar, her main influences were solidified as Tegan and Sara, Tonks and the Aurors, and Joan Jett. She prioritizes belting, banjolele, and brainstorming how to annoy the average straight white male in power. Since 2008 she's recorded four albums and three EPs full of music based on books, fan fiction, and TV series such as Harry Potter, My Immortal, and In The Flesh. Five US tours led up to Tianna's latest EP, "That’s So Gay" that is entirely based on queering media. As Sarah Wilkes puts it, “[Tianna and the Cliffhangers] make[s] me want to be bigger, bolder, gayer.”

Lauren Fairweather

Wizard Rocker

Lauren began her Wizard Rock career in 2005 when she and Nina Jankowicz created The Moaning Myrtles. They released two albums before Lauren began writing independently, including for her personal YouTube channel and the collaborative project 5 Awesome Girls. Lauren continues to write and perform multifandom music, and sells handmade crafts on Etsy and at conventions.

The Mudbloods

Wizard Rock Band

The Mudbloods formed in Texas in 2005 and released music mainly between 2007 and 2008. Performing mostly as solo artist Adam Dubberly and sometimes joined by David Matsler and Brandon McCullough, the band does not have a specific point of view, such as bands with names tied to a particular character. The Mudbloods small repertoire still left an indelible mark on wizard rock, with songs like "Be My Witch" and "A Pensieve Full of Unrequited Love" still popular among longtime fans today. The Mudbloods last performed at LeakyCon 2014.

Bryn Court

Head Sculptor
Theme parks, and films

Bryn Court has worked in the UK film industry for over 22 years as a Sculptor. His work can be seen in films including the entire Harry Potter series, The Gladiator, the Bond movies, The Mummy Returns, and The Dark Knight Rises. Since then, he has been involved in the Harry Potter theme parks for Universal in Orlando, Japan, and Hollywood, designing and working on sculpture elements including the Gringotts Dragon, Diagon Alley, and the interior set for Escape from Gringotts. He has recently finished work on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which will be released in November.

The Whomping Willows

Wizard Rock Band

The Whomping Willows, known in human form as Matt Maggiacomo, began playing wizard rock in 2004 at a house party with Harry and the Potters and Draco and the Malfoy. Several years later he began pursuing wizard rock full time and has never looked back. He has played over 700 shows as the Whomping WIllows and sold 10,000 albums. He also serves as Executive Director of The Harry Potter Alliance and is on the Board of Directors Uplift.

Draco and the Malfoys

Wizard Rock Band

Bradley Mehlenbacher and Brian Ross began playing wizard rock in response to their friends' band Harry and the Potters. They decided to write music from the point of view of Harry's rival, and the rest is wizard rock history. They have released five full-length studio albums as Draco and the Malfoys, and Bradley has a side project as Remus and the Lupins. They continue to play and host house shows in Rhode Island, where the band first formed. Wikipedia says they broke up in 2011 and is very wrong indeed.

Tonks and the Aurors

Wizard Rock Band

Tonks & the Aurors is a wizard rock band created and fronted by Steph Anderson. Since 2007, Tonks & the Aurors has traveled the country playing in libraries and bookstores and has released four full-length albums and an EP. Recently, Steph has expanded her “Muggle” discography to include an additional album and three EPs featuring songs that draw inspiration from The Hunger Games series, Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson series, John Green’s books, and even The West Wing. She has two albums in the works currently: a compilation of re-recorded Tonks greatest hits and an EP about U.S. history!

  • 2007

LeakyCon was conceived in 2007 by the creative minds behind The Leaky Cauldron, the leading online fan destination after which the convention was named. Its founders wanted to create a place where fans could come together to celebrate their common love of Harry Potter in a safe, welcoming and — above all — fun and friendly environment.

Two years later, LeakyCon became a reality.

  • 2009

The first-ever LeakyCon took place from May 21–24, 2009 in Boston, Massachusetts. It featured appearances by Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix screenwriter Michael Goldenberg, Scholastic editor Cheryl Klein, and members of the popular Harry Potter podcast “PotterCast.”

The weekend also featured performances by Wizard Rock bands, including Harry and the Potters, Draco and the Malfoys, and The Whomping Willows.

  • 2011

In 2011, LeakyCon coincided with the release of the eighth and final Harry Potter film. Fans celebrated with Harry Potter film stars Evanna Lynch, Chris Rankin, Scarlett Byrne and many others.

The hugely popular comedy troupe Team StarKid, lead by founding member Darren Criss, performed their most popular tunes, and attendees explored Hogsmeade Village in the newly-opened Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Resort.

  • 2012

In 2012, LeakyCon landed in Chicago. The convention that had begun as a celebration of all things Harry Potter had since grown to include many of the other stories that Potter fans loved. From August 9–12, 2012, thousands of fans came together to celebrate those numerous shared passions.

LeakyCon 2012 featured appearances by YouTube sensations John and Hank Green, Team StarKid, and the cast and creators of the Emmy award-winning web series The Lizzie Bennett Diaries; actors from the hit television show Glee; Harry Potter film stars, Evanna Lynch, Scarlett Byrne, and Robbie Jarvis, among others.

  • 2013

In 2013, LeakyCon went international, hosting conventions in both Portland, Oregon, and London, England.

Attendees at LeakyCon Portland continued to celebrate their love of all things fandom, with guests like Rent star Anthony Rapp, The Hunger Games’ Jackie Emerson, Buffy the Vampire Slayer actors Amber Benson and Tom Lenk, and Harry Potter actors Devon Murray, and Scarlett Byrne.

  • 2013

In London, Harry Potter pride was in full effect, with members of the cast, and crew joining thousands of fans for a truly magical weekend; the first of its kind in Europe!

Guests included Harry Potter stars Evanna Lynch, Scarlett Byrne, Alfred Enoch, Chris Rankin, Robbie Jarvis, and Ellie Darcey-Alden.

Attendees also experienced a special LeakyCon-only tour of the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter.

  • 2014

2014 saw the return of LeakyCon to Orlando, Florida as we celebrated the opening of Diagon Alley at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Resort.

Guests included YouTube superstar Hannah Hart, fandom parody masters Team StarKid, and AVbyte, The Fault in Our Stars author John Green, Supernatural actress Alaina Huffman, Doctor Who writer James Moran, and many more!

It was at LeakyCon 2014 that the now multi-fandom convention was renamed “GeekyCon,” allowing LeakyCon to return to its roots as the Harry Potter fan event it is today!
